The owner of downtown’s IDS Center skyscraper used a valuable piece of office space for a new tenant lounge, and the result is a hangout for tenants that has higher views than any competitor.
IDS Tower Club’s 6,200-square-foot lounge is on the 41st floor of the city’s tallest building. Since the skyscraper has unnumbered floors and several 12-foot ceilings, the club is actually on the equivalent of the 44th or 45 floor. That makes the tenant lounge the highest in the city, and it’s got some amazing views of the Mississippi River, Target Field and the Chain of Lakes.

Building owner Accesso Partners of Florida spent $1 million on a renovation that was designed by the Minneapolis office Nelson and built out by Minneapolis-based Gardner Builders.
The lounge is something that Jones Lang LaSalle Managing Director Jon Dahl, who leases the building, has been pushing to get for years.
The lounge hadn’t even opened last week and it was already generating buzz in the building as two groups of tenants from the building stopped by wanting to check it out in a matter of 30 minutes.
For Accesso, removing some of the highest rent space from the rolls was worth it to provide an amenity to the 120 tenants in the building, especially those on lower floors who don’t get to enjoy the skyscraper’s prime views.
“Accesso saw the vision and embraced it,” said Deb Kolar, the IDS Center general manager.
The space was designed to reflect all types of tenants, from law firms to financial firms to marketing and advertising companies.
“We had to ask, who are we?” Dahl said. “We wanted it to have the vibe that (creative agencies) have, but still be classy.”
Dahl and Kolar said the lounge could eventually be rented out by tenants for special events and celebrations, and that could include catered parties.
